Calendar and Register of Henry James Correspondence

Register Bibliography

[NB: The list below includes most of the texts I consulted to compile The Biographical Register of Henry James’s Correspondents. It is impractical to assemble a complete list; my own reading knowledge of the Victorian-Edwardian era in some instances contributed to my identification of correspondents. I also skimmed through indexes of countless volumes of memoirs, letters, biographies and autobiographies to verify names and dates, as well as the using the on-line catalogues of major research libraries (including the Library of Congress, Harvard’s Houghton Library, the OCLC, etc.) for information. I made use of baptismal records, birth records, census records, death records, marriage records, etc. through the Church of the Latter Day Saints Genealogical Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Also, I used standard reference books and encyclopedias, including the Biography Index, Webster’s Biographical Dictionary, Chambers’ Biographical Dictionary, Who was Who in America, the Dictionary of National Biography, the Dictionary of American Biography, the Cyclopedia of American Biography, Encyclopedia Britannica, Colliers, etc. To the best of my knowledge, I have provided all other major sources below.]
